Second Chances

I gave the Raine Maida solo album a second listen....and I still don't like it. Sorry Bruce.

Dawn goes to NY

I'm back on Long Island. I arrived at JFK at approximately 1pm on Monday. My flight home was filled with a bad selection of in flight entertainment and drifts in and out of sleep. I followed a familiar looking boy to the airtrain and arrived to Jamaica station, which was prettier than expected. I've never done anything more than change trains at the mysterious and large station. I blindly grabbed what I thought was a Babylon line schedule but it turned out it only gave information as far as Freeport. I estimated my arrival to be 3:20 and alerted Bruce to this fact. I ended up being only one minute off, and walked down the stairs to find Bruce and his yummy sunflower seeds sandwiched between the curb and a bus.

I arrived home and walked around dumbfounded for no reason for a bit. The house was missing the usual full stock of food, except for the snack drawer that consisted of five bags of licorice. My first attempt at eating was strawberries, which ended up being moldy. My second attempt was the pretzels, which ended up being soggy. I can't remember what I settled on, but I know it made me sick. The night before I left, Nik KimEx Cam Steph Rosco and Matt ventured to Ping Pong for all you can eat Dim Sum. Never doing that again, as it took my body 36 hours and a long sleep to recover. The rest of Monday was a blur but I do know I fell asleep around 10 and slept until 8 the next morning, which only a few brief wake ups in the midst. My body adjusted to NY time quicker than my mind. I keep finding myself subtracting five hours from the current time to know what it is in NY which is completely unnecessary when that's where I am.

My time has been spent coastering. I just received a wholesale order for 24 sets that I'd like to ship out by Saturday, but that's dependent upon me getting to Lowes tomorrow for more tiles, and to a few craft stores looking for a particular style of scrapbooking paper. I'm hoping the humid weather doesn't keep my coasters from drying in their usual time. Was Long Island always this humid? My body must have adjusted to London's lack of humidity as of late because I've been absolutely miserable the past two days. I've showered countless times, and every piece of clothing that has touched my body (when I've even bothered wearing any) has been tossed into the hamper soon after. I think I have more dirty laundry already since I've been home than I had in the past three weeks in the UK.

I'm listening to Bon Iver, a Bruce suggestion, and I think I'm impressed. Granted, I have a fan going right next to me which means the sound is a bit muffled. I haven't heard from Nik in a day and a half and I'm left to believe he is working ridiculous hours. Temp jobs seem to be few and far between thanks to the struggling economy and I'm hoping I can get something for at least part of the time I'm home. My bank account is slowly dwindling and I'd prefer to not leave NY with nothing to my name. Anyone know anyone who wants lots of coasters? Sell ten sets and I'll bake you cookies.

Home Sweet Home?

I hate booking things, but I think that stems from my hatred of phones. Need to do that though. Tomorrow at 6am I depart from Diamond House and make my way towards Gatwick Airport, North terminal. I arrive at JFK around 1245. An airtrain and one LIRR trip later, I should arrive in Babylon at an unknown time. Hopefully one of those taxi drivers will be waiting at the bottom of the stairs to take me home. Then back to reality for a bit. Need some temp jobs to get me through the two and a half months before I move to London. Plan on crafting lots. Need to visit Coney Island and an arboretum. Killing time, killing time, killing time...

Foxes in the schoolyard....

I'm listening to Our Lady Peace and foxes having sex. At least that's what we've concluded. The fox part, not OLP.

Reopened Little Tile Gnome on Etsy today, already got a sale, hoorah! Now if I can keep that up daily, I'll be in good shape. Looking at some new paper online right now. Brooklyn Flea again the last weekend of July. Be there or be square. And buy coasters. Please? I'll give you a discount!

I think its time to leave OLP and move onto Sheerwater. The past three days have been spent reliving the 90s (Silverchair has also played a big part) and I think I need a dose of current stuff...

Does anyone besides Michael read this?

A flower for a lonely Friday night...

Looks like Nik will be working overnight again. I guess its a good opportunity to work on the Wind Up Bird Chronicle, which I'd like to finish before I fly out. Not really keen to drag a 600 page book on the plane if I don't have to, rather leave it here.

This flower is from Kim's garden. No modifications, just the basic TTV setup. I fell in love instantly. I need to go to an arboretum once I'm back on the Island.

Wow...

One more thing. Has anyone else hear the Raine Maida solo album? Thoughts? I'm really at a complete loss as to what to think....
I was just informed that Nik will most likely be spending the night at work. Which makes me sad. I know he works real hard with what he does, but I think spending the night there is a bit extreme. Cam is laying on the floor just inside the front door. That's as far as he made it before passing out. First he struggled to make it through the front door, and then he fell on top of the huge pile of shoes just inside. Now he's asleep, keys laying in his open palm, blocking the hallway and the second bathroom. Ezra and I just watched shows with lots of boobs and a bit of Big Brother. Tomorrow we plan on having some yummy Turkish food at Sofra. Hopefully Nik can actually leave work to join us, and hopefully Cam is functioning by that point.
Spent my day studying French. Wish I could he studying with Bruce as it would probably help us both. I really want to be fluent in another language. It's coming back to me easier than I expected, as I took a few years worth back in middle/high school. It was ingrained in my head more than Spanish in college ever was.

I return to NY Monday and will remain there until September 22nd, when I ship off again. That time, I will be starting school. London School of Economics and Political Science. I'm not going for Economics or PoliSci but for Human Resource Management.

Cam has made it up to his room and I am free to wander down to the lounge to watch late night television, or to at least retrieve my Burts Bees chapstick I left on the ironing board. There's a moth of some sort fluttering around my head and its driving me slightly insane. I feel lonely but I don't think a moth can provide the comfort I crave.

The recapping is over so now I'm left to posts like this. I wish I had photos to document my days but I haven't turned my camera on since Ireland. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow. Until then, check out these pretty Etsy items. I want them all.
